Abstract
It is shown that the mutual position of arm-wrestlers and referees significantly affects the outcome of the match. The causes of this asymmetry are identified and considered. Numerical experiments were carried out, clearly demonstrating that, according to the modern arm wrestling rules, athletes go to one side more often than to the other. Recommendations are proposed to reduce the impact of the effect on the competition results. The effectiveness of these measures is shown by using the appropriate numerical experiments.
