Introduction – the article describes the preparation for the subject "Elective courses in physical culture and sports" at the Department of physical education of Moscow Region State University. Methodology and organization of the study-Students receive basic knowledge, skills and abilities in order to learn how to independently monitor their physical activity and health in the future. The results of the research and their discussion – during the educational process, students master a number of the scientific methods that will be useful for their independent activities in the future. Conclusions-Strengthening the educational orientation of elective courses in physical culture and sports helps students to creatively master the educational material.
