The article presents changes in the functional indicators of students (young men, n = 24) of the 1st year of a Turkish university at the beginning and end of the school year during their physical education classes. Students independently selected the types of physical activity in the process of these classes. Loads were aerobic (cyclic loads - running) and anaerobic (speed-power loads - various types of wrestling) characters. The functional parameters were the parameters of heart rate variability, estimated by the method of cardiointervalometry using the “Varicard-2.51” hardware-software complex. It was found that the best results (in such important indicators as CV, SI, D, TP) at the end of the school year were among students who performed cyclic loads.
